Leadership gifts for a special holiday
What do you give to your boss as a show of appreciation? A vacation in the Caribbean sounds warm and inviting. Or perhaps tickets to the still hottest show on Broadway, “The Book of Mormon”, or maybe a soft, grey cashmere scarf for those cold nights of winter.
Nah!
How about something simple like a card with sleigh bells and Santa and merry wishes?
Nah!
What then to give your boss?
My suggestion is a handwritten note of appreciation (that is if you appreciate him or her).
I am still struck with how many employees still see the boss as someone who makes demands, who never understands, who finds fault, seeing the boss as either more than or less than human.
I talk with so many people in positions of power and they, almost everyone, have a sense of loneliness when it comes to direct reports.
Thus, just a few sentences of appreciation will warm the heart and make for a stronger foundation for next year.
Go ahead, say something positive. It will make a difference, I promise.
