Ain’t It Good to Be Alive

Last weekend we trekked to Manhattan for the season premiere of ALIVE: 55+ and Kicking. And what a day it was. Just being in the presence of the executive producer, Vy Higginsen would have been enough. However, the day brought so much that I simply want to stand up and applaud the entire cast and the brilliance of an idea so needed in our world today. Vi took the microphone before the start of th…Read More

  2. Turkeys and Eagles

Did you know that Benjamin Franklin was not all that thrilled having the Bald Eagle as our national symbol? He much preferred…TADA…the Turkey!! So as you are celebrating this day of Thanksgiving think about the noble bird that could have been on our currency instead of on the table!!! (more…)…Read More

  3. Missed the fireworks by a day

We were there on Friday. Yup. We were at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Even had lunch at The Volcano House. We stood at the steam vents (great for a facial) and went as far as we could go to get some “hot” pictures of Kilauea and the lava flow. Missed the big show by one day. Bummer. So here are spectacular photos of the volcano and the red hot lava. Click here for images of Kilauea. By …Read More

  4. What do you do when you are ignored?

Did you ever sit in a restaurant and wonder if you had a snake on your head, or maybe a bird’s nest, or a mouse, or if your face had turned bright blue? You sit there and question why the server is taking so long to get to your table. It looks like everyone else is getting attention. Your meal drags on and on.  When you finally get your food, it is put in front of you with a grunt. You accept i…Read More

  5. Pattern Interrupted

It truly is all in the eyes of the beholder. I was at a business meeting and the leader of the team went on and on about a personal issue with a belligerent intern. She couldn't believe someone so far down on the pecking order would act as if he was the CEO of the company. Whenever the meeting was redirected back to real issues something triggered her upset and again she was off and running. The d…Read More

  6. Leadership Development, Ego Stroking, “Atta Boy’s”, and Truth Telling

I stood at the back of a fast food restaurant waiting for my colleague to get his coffee so we could sit in the summer weather when it isn’t even spring. My mind was in that "Thank God It's Friday" mode when suddenly I found my ears circling around to eavesdrop on two employees. “I see you have your stupid smiling face on the wall as the employee of the month”. “Yeah, it’s such a bunch o…Read More

  7. GUTSY Leadership: Butterflies in Your Belly

When I met Livia Genova-Pagano at an eWomen’s networking event in suburban Philadelphia I was struck by her strong and assured presence. I saw the word GUTSY written in the middle of her forehead. When we talked I saw how perfectly positioned she was for life to take her on a fast and fun ride to high level leadership. Her delight with her company was effervescent, she bubbled and sparkled. We t…Read More

  8. Live, Love, Laugh

Want a prosperous year? Are you setting goals with dates and times and specifics to get where you want to go? There are so many “systems” out there for goal setting, business development, and relationship success. Yet, I believe that unless there is an over-riding vision of what really matters in life, you may get to the goal and miss the point. Think about King Midas from the fairy tale realm…Read More

  9. Battling Women and Windmills

In our Total Leadership Connections program we teach participants to go beyond the obvious, that leadership in any field requires deep thought; superficial considerations are merely not enough. Recently asked what I thought about all the brouhaha around actor/director Mel Gibson’s racist and venomous comments to ex-girlfriend and mother of his child I decided to do some research. Based on what I…Read More

  10. Leadership and Change: Ready on a Moment’s Notice

I must really be getting old! I remember when tornadoes were only meant to happen in Kansas. In past years most of us watched "The Wizard of Oz" and went along with Dorothy on her journey, yet it was just a story, right? While tornadoes indicate sudden change and danger they were "out there" in pockets of the country. They were meant to be in Kansas, not Connecticut. Well, not until this week anyw…Read More
